SYNCO-CREATION
Portrait of Tony Hanyk

This isn’t rocket surgery. We’re playing with shapes and colours here. But shapes and colours are where the magic lies. That’s the juju that draws people in and helps them step in sync together. It’s the wisdom that helps them feel just an inch less alone, and deepen into relationship, into engagement, into trust. It’s powerful stuff, worthy of our respect — and it’s how the world’s best brands are building their capabilities.

I’m a creative director and UX designer who is out to make this world a little more playful.

I help brands express their best in every experience folks have with them, whether that’s out in the market or in their day to day work.

I guide teams with warmth and wit, and create the space for innovative new ideas to flourish.

VALUES

A few
house rules

Build the brick,
not the house

What we improvise every day becomes the work of a lifetime. I bring patience to the practice, to the focus that flows when you show up, and to putting it into perspective. I work in service of the collective, of projects larger than what any one person can accomplish alone.

Make + mentor,
every day

Imagination can’t survive in silence – play is where we jam. I’m involved in ongoing conversation, with my own creativity and with others who are making meaning. I invest in honing my instrument, and creating supportive spaces to harmonize and work out new tunes, together.

Respect action + rest

Sometimes intellect and intuition move at different speeds and as creatives, we need to let those catch up to one another. I listen for the notes in between, stepping forward to share my thoughts and letting others step in, embracing the unknown where the magic often lies.

DEI

ally is a verb

Diversity makes everything better. Life and work are like music – to find harmony, you need to know when to step forward and solo, and when to step back and help others shine. I believe in the Lamplighters.

The practice is the process. And especially, moving through this world as a white, able-bodied, cis-man, it’s my work to continually challenge my assumptions and privileges to unlearn systems of oppression and make space for everyone to flourish.

I prioritize mental health support in my work, both in and outside the office, and use creativity and compassion to ignite new connections that catch fire.

I co-lead the ABLE Employee Resource Groups at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, elevating the importance of mental health and wellbeing. I’m the guy you turn to for fun, accessible experiences that build culture and spark unprecedented conversations in our organization. For more on my involvement here, check out this case study.

I also support the following organizations that are close to my heart:
